Biology - All About Bats
Long, long ago people used to think that bats were birds without feathers. No such thing, all birds have feathers! Bats are mammals just like us – warm blooded, nurse their young with milk, and they have fur. They are nocturnal - which sometimes reminds us of our preschoolers!
Bats are the only mammals that can fly by flapping their wings. The movement is similar to the butterfly stroke in swimming. We will talk about how bats use their wings for many things including, holding the fruit they eat!
Bats play an important part in nature. They spread the seeds of the fruit they eat. They are responsible for scattering up to 95% of the seeds needed for new trees in tropical rainforest.
We will have a batty good time!
