Pompoms

Learning Through Play!
A variety of colored pom poms are presented to the child, all together in one clear container. The child grabs one pom pom at a time to place on the corresponding colored square. The child can also use their fingers to pick up the pom poms, or look for other items in the household to utilize to pick up the pom pom for increased fine motor challenges (tweezers, tongs, spoon). Selecting the pom pom helps the child develop their pincer grasp, an important skill for holding pencils as well as manipulating items such as zippers, buttons, and shoelaces.

POMPOM HOCKEY!
Pom Pom Hockey is another super simple activity that gets little bodies moving. You will need masking tape, paper plates, and cardboard tubes. Make a hockey stick by cutting the paper plate with three straight edges and stick it into the end of the cardboard tube and secure it with masking tape. Make hockey goals by masking off two square shape boxes on the floor on either side of the room (or hallway). The challenge of Pom Pom Hockey is to get as many pom poms into your square! No hands allowed, only the scoop can be used to move the pom poms. A modification is to use the hockey scoops to sort the pom poms into groups according to color.
